Using stow and rake for road danger mitigation assist

A system for providing an alert to a driver by controlling a position of a steering wheel of a vehicle, the system comprising:

• a controller configured to
• obtain vehicle path data indicating a path of the vehicle,
• obtain road condition data for roadways along the path of the vehicle,
• determine, based on the road condition data, whether hazardous road conditions are present on the roadways along the path of the vehicle,
• determine a state of the driver,
• determine, based on at least one of (i) the determination of whether the hazardous road conditions are present and (ii) the state of the driver, whether to provide the alert to the driver, and
• in response a determination to provide the alert to the driver, generate an output configured to adjust at least one of a stow position of the steering wheel and a rake position of the steering wheel;
• and
• at least one actuator configured to, responsive to the output of the controller, adjust the at least one of the stow position and the rake position, wherein the adjusting includes causing movement of the steering wheel to provide the alert to the driver.

A processing device configured to execute instructions stored in memory to provide an alert to a driver by controlling a position of a steering wheel of a vehicle, the instructions comprising:

• obtaining vehicle path data indicating a path of the vehicle;
• obtaining road condition data for roadways along the path of the vehicle;
• determining, based on the road condition data, whether hazardous road conditions are present on the roadways along the path of the vehicle;
• determining a state of the driver;
• determining, based on at least one of (i) the determination of whether the hazardous road conditions are present and (ii) the state of the driver, whether to provide the alert to the driver;
• and
• in response a determination to provide the alert to the driver, adjusting at least one of a stow position of the steering wheel and a rake position of the steering wheel, wherein the adjusting includes causing movement of the steering wheel to provide the alert to the driver.
