Abstract
Fire protection systems and methods of fire protection systems for protection of a stored commodity. The systems and methods included a plurality of fluid distribution devices disposed above the stored commodity and configured for selective identification and controlled actuation in response to a fire. The systems have a hydraulic demand defined by at least one of: i) a hydraulic design area having a minimum operational area of less than 768 square feet; or ii) less than twelve hydraulic design devices.
Claims20
A fire protection system, comprising:
- a plurality of sprinklers, each sprinkler of the plurality of sprinklers comprising an early suppression fast response (ESFR) frame body, each sprinkler of the plurality of sprinklers installed beneath a ceiling of a storage occupancy, the storage occupancy to include a stored commodity having a storage height less than or equal to 60 feet, with the ceiling and the plurality of sprinklers above the stored commodity, the storage occupancy having a ceiling height less than or equal to 60 feet;
- each sprinkler of the plurality of sprinklers having a K-factor in GPM/PSI1/2 greater than or equal to 14.0 and less than or equal to 33.6, the ESFR frame body of each sprinkler of the plurality of sprinklers having an inlet, an outlet, and a passageway extending between the inlet and the outlet;
- and
- at least one sprinkler of the plurality of sprinklers configured to couple with at least one pipe of a network of pipes that provide a minimum operating pressure of fluid to the plurality of sprinklers, the network of pipes comprises a hydraulic design area including less than 12 hydraulically remote sprinklers of the plurality of sprinklers.
A fire protection system, comprising:
- a plurality of early suppression fast response (ESFR) sprinklers, at least one of the plurality of ESFR sprinklers to couple with at least one pipe of a network of pipes in a storage occupancy in a gridded network or a tree network, the plurality of sprinklers to receive a minimum operating pressure of fluid from the network of pipes, the plurality of sprinklers forming a hydraulic design area including less than 12 hydraulically remote ESFR sprinklers, the plurality of ESFR sprinklers installed beneath a ceiling of a storage occupancy, the storage occupancy to include a stored commodity having a storage height less than or equal to 60 feet, with the ceiling and the plurality of ESFR sprinklers above the stored commodity, the storage occupancy having a ceiling height less than or equal to 60 feet;
- each ESFR sprinkler of the plurality of ESFR sprinklers having a K-factor in GPM/PSI1/2 greater than or equal to 14.0 and less than or equal to 33.6, each ESFR sprinkler of the plurality of ESFR sprinklers comprising a frame body having an inlet, an outlet, and a passageway extending between the inlet and the outlet, and a deflector coupled with the frame body.
A fire protection system, comprising:
- a plurality of early suppression fast response (ESFR) frame bodies, each ESFR frame body of the plurality of ESFR frame bodies installed beneath a ceiling of a storage occupancy, the storage occupancy to include a stored commodity having a storage height less than or equal to 60 feet, with the ceiling and the plurality of ESFR frame bodies above the stored commodity, the storage occupancy having a ceiling height less than or equal to 60 feet;
- each ESFR frame body of the plurality of ESFR frame bodies has a K-factor in GPM/PSI1/2 greater than or equal to 14.0 and less than or equal to 33.6 and has an inlet, an outlet, and a passageway extending between the inlet and the outlet;
- and
- at least one ESFR frame body of the plurality of ESFR frame bodies configured to couple with at least one pipe of a network of pipes that provide a minimum operating pressure of fluid to the plurality of ESFR frame bodies, the network of pipes having a hydraulic design area including less than 12 hydraulically remote ESFR frame bodies of the plurality of ESFR frame bodies.
