Abstract
A catheter for positioning through a conventional guiding catheter into the vasculature of a patient, the catheter having a distal tube and a proximal shaft coupled to a proximal portion of the distal tube. The proximal shaft can have a first elongate member and a second elongate member disposed such that the second elongate member is parallel with and non-coaxial with the first elongate member.
Claims19
An extension catheter comprising:
- (a) a distal tube comprising:
- (i) a tube body;
- (ii) a tube lumen defined within the tube body;
- (b) a proximal shaft operably coupled to a proximal portion of a wall of the tube body, the proximal shaft comprising:
- (i) a first elongate member;
- and
- (ii) a second elongate member disposed such that the second elongate member is parallel with and non-coaxial with the first elongate member,
- wherein the second elongate member is coupled to the first elongate member,
- wherein the first and second elongate members are configured to extend distally into the wall of the distal tube body, and
- wherein at least one of the first and second elongate members has no lumen.

An extension catheter comprising:
- (a) a distal tube comprising:
- (i) a tube body;
- and
- (ii) a tube lumen defined within the tube body;
- (iii) a first opening defined at a first end of the tube body;
- and
- (iv) a second opening defined at a second end of the tube body,
- wherein the tube lumen, the first opening, and the second opening are sized and configured to receive an interventional catheter therethrough;
- (b) a proximal shaft operably coupled to a proximal portion of a wall of the distal tube body, the proximal shaft comprising:
- (i) a first elongate solid member;
- and
- (ii) a second elongate solid member coupled to the first elongate solid member such that the second elongate solid member is parallel with and non-coaxial with the first elongate solid member,
- wherein the first and second elongate members are configured to extend distally into the wall of the distal tube body.

An extension catheter comprising:
- (a) a distal tube comprising:
- (i) a tube body comprising a tubular wall, the tube body sized to be positionable through a guiding catheter;
- 11 a tube lumen defined within the tube body by the tubular wall;
- iii) a distal opening defined in a distal end of the tube body, the distal opening in fluidic communication with the tube lumen;
- and
- (iv) a proximal opening defined in a proximal end of the tube body, the proximal opening in fluidic communication with the tube lumen,
- wherein the tube lumen, the distal opening, and the proximal opening are sized such that an interventional catheter is positionable therethrough;
- (b) a proximal shaft operably coupled to a proximal portion of the tubular wall of the distal tube, the proximal shaft comprising:
- (i) a first elongate member;
- and
- (ii) a second elongate member disposed adjacent to and attached at an outer surface of the second elongate member to an outer surface of the first elongate member along a length of the first elongate member, wherein the second elongate member is parallel with and non-coaxial with the first elongate member,
- wherein the first and second elongate members increase axial manipulability of the distal tube in comparison to a single elongate member,
- wherein the first and second elongate members are configured to extend distally into the tubular wall of the distal tube body, and
- wherein at least one of the first and second elongate members is solid.

- and
- (11) a tube lumen defined within the tube body;
- (iii) a distal opening defined in a distal end of the tube body, the distal opening in fluidic communication with the tube lumen;
- and
- (iv) a proximal opening defined in a proximal end of the tube body, the proximal opening in fluidic communication with the tube lumen,
- wherein the tube lumen, the distal opening, and the proximal opening are sized to be capable of receiving an interventional catheter therethrough;
- (b) a proximal shaft operably coupled to a proximal portion of a wall of the distal tube body, the proximal shaft comprising:
- (i) a first elongate solid member;
- and
- (ii) a second elongate solid member coupled to the first elongate solid member such that the second elongate solid member is parallel with and non-coaxial with the first elongate solid member,
- wherein the first and second elongate members are configured to extend distally into the wall of the distal tube body.
