Abstract
A topical preparation for use in treating dermatological ailments is prepared from a mixture comprising salicylic acid or a salt thereof, zinc or a salt thereof, iodine or a salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier vehicle. The preparation comprises any one or more of anti-inflammatory properties, keratolytic properties, anti-pruritic properties, anti-carcinogenic properties. Methods of treatment involving topical application of the preparation are also described.

A topical preparation for dermatological application, the preparation prepared from a mixture comprising:
- zinc oxide;
- salicylic acid;
- and
- iodine;
- in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier vehicle, wherein the mixture comprises salicylic acid in an amount of from 1 to 2% m/m, zinc oxide in an amount of from 5 to 15% m/m, and iodine in an amount of from 0.001 to 0.01% m/m, based on the total mass of the preparation, wherein the iodine is provided in the mixture as a solution in ethanol.
