Abstract
An orthosis includes a footplate having a heel portion, a midfoot portion, and a longitudinal axis extending between the heel and midfoot portions. A first deflection zone is defined along a length of the footplate anterior of the heel portion and through which the footplate is arranged to flex during gait to accommodate dorsiflexion of a foot of a user positioned on the footplate. At least one strut is connected to the heel portion of the footplate and extends upwardly therefrom and a connecting portion connects the at least one strut to the heel portion.
Claims19
An orthosis comprising:
- a footplate having a heel portion, a midfoot portion, a longitudinal axis extending between the heel and midfoot portions;
- a posterior strut having proximal and distal end portions, the posterior strut defining an inner surface and an outer surface opposite to the inner surface, the posterior strut extending continuously in line with a line of progression between the proximal and distal end portions, the inner surface and outer surface forming a curved profile along a length configured to correspond to a heel area of a user and transitioning to a generally rectangular profile above the length configured to correspond to a heel area of a user, the distal end portion of the posterior strut joins at a posterior end of the heel portion of the footplate in line with the line of progression and oblique to the longitudinal axis of the footplate;
- a securing device attached to the proximal end portion of the posterior strut, the securing device including an anterior shell having a rigid configuration and configured to float relative to the posterior strut, the anterior shell opposed to the posterior strut and defining a peak positioned medial of the longitudinal axis of the footplate, the anterior shell having planar side portions angled relative to one another and converging together to form the peak, a thickness of the planar side portions increasing as the planar side portions converge to form the peak, the peak configured to be arranged to correspond to a tibial crest and tibial tuberosity of the user;
- a strap member connecting the securing device to the posterior strut;
- wherein the anterior shell forms a contour along the peak, the contour defining a concavely curved inner surface;
- wherein the anterior shell is directly opposite the proximal end of the posterior strut.
An orthosis comprising:
- a footplate having a heel portion, a midfoot portion, a longitudinal axis extending between the heel and midfoot portions;
- a posterior strut having proximal and distal end portions, the posterior strut defining an inner surface and an outer surface opposite to the inner surface, the posterior strut extending continuously in line with a line of progression between the proximal and distal end portions, the inner and outer surface forming a curved profile along a length configured to correspond to a heel area of a user and transitioning to a generally rectangular profile above the length configured to correspond to a heel area of a user, the distal end portion of the posterior strut joins at a posterior end of the heel portion of the footplate in line with the line of progression and oblique to the longitudinal axis of the footplate;
- a securing device attached to the proximal end portion of the posterior strut, the securing device including an anterior shell having a rigid configuration and configured to float relative to the posterior strut, the anterior shell opposed to the posterior strut and defining a center portion positioned on a medial side of the longitudinal axis of the footplate, the anterior shell having planar side portions angled relative to one another and converging together at the center portion, a thickness of the planar side portions increasing as the planar side portions converge at the center portion, the center portion arranged to correspond to a tibial crest and tibial tuberosity of a user;
- a strap member connecting the securing device to the posterior strut;
- wherein the footplate defines the line of progression extending from the heel portion through the midfoot portion, the posterior strut and the anterior shell are generally normal to the line of progression of the footplate, the line of progression is angularly offset relative to the longitudinal axis of the footplate.
An orthosis comprising:
- a footplate having a heel portion, a midfoot portion, a longitudinal axis extending between the heel and midfoot portions;
- a posterior strut having proximal and distal end portions, the posterior strut extending continuously in line with a line of progression between the proximal and distal end portions and forming a curved profile along a length corresponding to a heel area of a user, the distal end portion of the posterior strut joins at a posterior end of the heel portion of the footplate in line with the line of progression and oblique to the longitudinal axis of the footplate;
- a securing device attached to the proximal end portion of the posterior strut, the securing device including an anterior shell having a rigid configuration, the anterior shell opposed to the posterior strut and defining a peak positioned medial of the longitudinal axis of the footplate, the anterior shell having planar side portions angled relative to one another and converging together to form the peak, the peak configured to be arranged to correspond to a tibial crest and tibial tuberosity of the user;
- a strap member connecting the securing device to the posterior strut;
- a connecting portion extending from and joining at the distal end portion of the posterior strut and joining at the heel portion of the footplate, the connecting portion having a curved profile along a length of the connecting portion extending between the distal end portion of the posterior strut and the heel portion of the footplate;
- wherein the anterior shell forms a contour along the peak, the contour defining a concavely curved inner surface;
- wherein the anterior shell is directly opposite the proximal end of the posterior strut;
- wherein the connecting portion is positioned on a lateral side of the longitudinal axis of the footplate;
- wherein the connecting portion generally has a rectangular profile as the posterior strut and is more rigid than the footplate and the distal end portion of the posterior strut, the heel portion of the footplate having a greater width than a width of the connecting portion, wherein the posterior strut is configured to be arranged to extend along a back of a user's leg and directed linearly above the heel portion of the footplate relative to the back of the leg.
An orthosis comprising:
- a footplate having a heel portion, a midfoot portion, a longitudinal axis extending between the heel and midfoot portions;
- a posterior strut having proximal and distal end portions, the posterior strut defining an immer surface and an outer surface opposite to the inner surface, the posterior strut extending continuously in line with a line of progression between the proximal and distal end portions, the inner and outer surface forming a curved profile along a length configured to correspond to a heel area of a user and transitioning to a generally rectangular profile above the length configured to correspond to a heel area of the user, the distal end portion of the posterior strut joins at a posterior end of the heel portion of the footplate in line with the line of progression and oblique to the longitudinal axis of the footplate;
