Abstract
Processes and devices for equalizing an audio system that is adapted to use a loudspeaker to transduce test audio signals into test sounds. The processes and devices can involve the use of infrared signals to convey information in one or both directions between the audio system and a portable computer device that captures test sounds, calculates audio parameters that can be used in the equalization process, and transmits these audio parameters back to the audio system for its use in equalizing audio signals that are played by the audio system.
Claims20
A method of equalizing an audio system, the method comprising:
- receiving, using at least one microphone of a portable computer device, test sounds played by one or more loudspeakers of the audio system, wherein the test sounds are generated from test audio from an audio signal source, and wherein the test audio is generated by the audio signal source based on audio signals;
- determining a time delay between the generation of the test audio by the audio signal source and the receiving of the test audio sounds;
- calculating, based on the time delay, a frequency response;
- and
- calculating, based on the frequency response, audio parameters to be used for equalizing the audio system.
A computer program product having a non-transitory computer-readable medium including computer program logic encoded thereon that, when performed on a portable computer device, causes the portable computer device to:
- receive, using at least one microphone of a portable computer device, test sounds played by one or more loudspeakers of an audio system, wherein the test sounds are generated from test audio from an audio signal source, and wherein the test audio is generated by the audio signal source based on audio signals;
- determine a time delay between the generation of the test audio by the audio signal source and the receiving of the test sounds;
- calculate, based on the time delay, a frequency response;
- and
- calculate, based on the frequency response, audio parameters to be used for equalizing the audio system.
A portable computer device comprising:
- at least one microphone;
- and
- at least one processor configured to
- receive, using the at least one microphone, test sounds played by one or more loudspeakers of an audio system, wherein the test sounds are generated from test audio from an audio signal source, and wherein the test audio is generated by the audio signal source based on audio signals,
- determine a time delay between the generation of the test audio by the audio signal source and the receiving of the test audio,
- calculate, based on the time delay, a frequency response, and
- calculate, based on the frequency response, audio parameters to be used for equalizing the audio system.
