Method for determining a navigation route for an automated driving operation of a vehicle

A method comprising:

• generating, by a navigation system of a vehicle using a digital attribute-based street map, a route between a starting point and a destination;
• producing, using the digital attribute-based street map, a node list representing geographical coordinates of the route;
• transferring the node list into a digital sensor-based street map containing a surroundings description detected by sensors;
• determining, using the node list, lane-specific driving section candidates along the route in the digital sensor-based street map;
• identifying and discarding irrelevant driving section candidates from the lane-specific driving section candidates to produce remaining lane-specific driving section candidates;
• segmenting the route in the digital sensor-based street map using the remaining lane-specific driving section candidates into subgraphs with only one possible lane and subgraphs with multiple possible lanes;
• identifying optimal lanes along the route using the segmented route;
• and
• combining the optimal lanes to form a lane-specific navigation route.
