Abstract
Provided are a wireless charging system and methodology including a charging station, an application, and a server configured and operating to facilitate wireless vehicle charging. The charging station includes a charging unit for transferring power, a control unit, and a communication unit. The application is accessible through a mobile device and capable of communicating with the charging station. The server is capable of communicating with the charging station and the mobile device.
Claims20
A wireless charging network, comprising:
- a plurality of charging stations, each charging station including a control module configured to determine usage data of the charging station and selectively power the charging station;
- a server communicatively coupled to a network of location-enabled vehicles and to the control module of each of the plurality of charging stations, wherein the server is configured to determine:
- (i) a parameter of the plurality of charging stations based on the determined usage data, wherein the parameter includes an occupancy status of each of the plurality of charging stations that is indicative of a current availability of the charging station and an operating status of each of the plurality of charging stations that is indicative of a current condition of the charging station, wherein the current condition comprises information on whether the charging station is operational;
- (ii) a location of the plurality of charging stations relative to locations of the network of location-enabled vehicles;
- (iii) a selection of one of the plurality of charging stations, in response to a request from at least one of the location-enabled vehicles for wireless charging at the charging station, based on the parameter of the plurality of charging stations and the location of the plurality of charging stations relative to the location of the at least one location-enabled vehicle;
- (iv) a change in the occupancy status of the charging station in response to the control module of the charging station selectively powering the at least one location-enabled vehicle based on detecting an arrival of the at least one location-enabled vehicle at the charging station;
- and
- (v) a presence of an object adjacent to the charging station other than the at least one location-enabled vehicle, wherein the charging station automatically discontinues powering the at least one location-enabled vehicle upon detecting the presence of the object.
A wireless charging network, comprising:
- one or more charging stations including a control module configured to determine usage data of a corresponding charging station and selectively power the corresponding charging station based on detecting an arrival of a location-enabled vehicle at the charging station;
- a server communicatively coupled to a network of one or more location-enabled vehicles and the control module of the one or more charging stations, such that the server receives positional data from the one or more location-enabled vehicles and the usage data from the one or more charging stations;
- wherein the server is configured to determine a parameter of the one or more charging stations based on the usage data, and a location of the one or more charging stations relative to the one or more location-enabled vehicles based on the positional data, wherein the parameter includes an occupancy status of each of the one or more charging stations that is indicative of a current availability of the charging station and an operating status of each of the one or more charging stations that is indicative of a current condition of the charging station, wherein the current condition comprises information on whether the charging station is operational;
- wherein the server is configured to generate a selection from the one or more charging stations for at least one of the location-enabled vehicles based on the parameter of the one or more charging stations and the location of the one or more charging stations relative to the at least one location-enabled vehicle, and change the occupancy status of the charging station based on the control module of the charging station selectively powering the location-enabled vehicle upon detecting the arrival of the location-enabled vehicle at the charging station, and
- wherein the server is configured to generate a reservation from the selection of the one or more charging stations and automatically terminate the reservation in response to determining the at least one location-enabled vehicle is not positioned at the charging station at a reserved time of the reservation based on the occupancy status of the charging station.
A method of wireless charging vehicles over a network, the method comprising:
- obtaining positional data of a plurality of vehicles;
- obtaining usage data of a plurality of charging stations;
- determining at least one parameter for each of the plurality of charging stations based on the usage data, wherein the at least one parameter includes an occupancy status of each of the plurality of charging stations that is indicative of a current availability of the charging station and an operating status of each of the plurality of charging stations that is indicative of a current condition of the charging station, wherein the current condition comprises information on whether the charging station is operational;
- determining a location of the plurality of charging stations relative to the plurality of vehicles based on the positional data;
- generating a selection of at least one of the plurality of charging stations, in response to a request from at least one of the plurality of vehicles, based on the parameter of the plurality of charging stations and the location of the plurality of charging stations relative to the at least one vehicle;
- generating a visual display of a current position of a receiver on the at least one vehicle relative to a charging unit of the at least one charging station automatically for wireless transmission to a mobile device associated with the at least one vehicle based on detecting an arrival of the at least one vehicle at the at least one charging station;
- and
- transmitting power wirelessly to the at least one vehicle from the at least one charging station based on detecting an alignment of the receiver on the at least one vehicle with the charging unit at the at least one charging station.
