Abstract

Methods, systems, and devices for forming a wearable ring device are described. A welding process may use ultrasonic welding to attach an outer lateral surface cover to the inner lateral surface cover, which may form an arcuate frame for the wearable ring device. The welding process may involve ultrasonic welding, which may melt one or more welding features (e.g., welding ribs) to attach the outer lateral surface cover to the inner lateral surface cover. In some examples, the welding features may be located on the outer lateral surface cover, the inner lateral surface cover, or both. To reduce negative effects on fragile components, such as a PCB of the wearable ring device, the fragile components may be disposed in a location away from the welding features. Further, in some cases, a material may be used to cover and shield the fragile components from ultrasonic waves during the welding procedure.

Dependent claims

A wearable ring device, comprising:

an arcuate frame configured to be worn on a finger of a user, the arcuate frame comprising:
an inner cover comprising an inner surface of the wearable ring device that is configured to contact the finger of the user when the wearable ring device is worn by the user;
and
an outer cover comprising an outer surface of the wearable ring device, wherein a first welding rib extends from a first portion of the outer cover of the arcuate frame, wherein a second welding rib extends from a second portion of the outer cover of the arcuate frame, wherein the first welding rib and the second welding rib extend from the outer cover towards one another within the wearable ring device, and wherein the first welding rib and the second welding rib are welded to the inner cover to form the arcuate frame;
and
an arcuate printed circuit board coupled with the outer cover and disposed within the arcuate frame between the outer cover and the inner cover.
