Abstract
Provided are 2-coordinate metal complexes compounds as sensitizers of fluorophores. Also provided are formulations comprising these 2-coordinate metal complexes compounds. Further provided are OLEDs and related consumer products that utilize these 2-coordinate metal complexes compounds. The OLED includes an emissive region that contains a first compound that is a sensitizer having a structure of and an acceptor.
Claims19
An organic light emitting device (OLED) comprising:
- an anode;
- a cathode;
- and
- an emissive region, disposed between the anode and the cathode;
- wherein the emissive region comprises:
- a first compound that is a sensitizer having a structure of

- Y′ is N;
- n is 1;
- represents a single bond or a double bond;
- R, R′, RA, RB, and RC is independently a hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of deuterium, halogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, boryl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carboxylic acid, ether, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof;
- RD and RE are each substituted or unsubstituted aryl;
- any two or more of R, R′, RA, RB, RC, RD, and RE can be joined or fused together to form a ring;
- RA and RB are joined to form a ring;
- RD and RE are joined to form a ring;
- and
- wherein the OLED further comprises an acceptor, wherein the acceptor has the structure:
- wherein:
- rings A, B and C are each independently a monocyclic or multicyclic ring system comprising one or more fused 5-membered or 6-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic rings;
- Z is B;
- each Y is NR;
- and
- each R is independently a hydrogen or a substituent selected from the group consisting of deuterium, halogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, heterocycloalkyl, boryl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carboxylic acid, ether, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof;
- and
- with the proviso that when X1 is CRR′, the acceptor emits light with a peak wavelength Amax of less or equal to 520 nm at room temperature.
