This invention relates to a lubricating oil composition comprising: at least 50 mass % or more of one or more base oils; detergent; and 0.01 to 20 mass % of a functionalized polymer comprising a partially or fully saturated olefin homopolymer or copolymer backbone and at least one functional group, having: i) an Mn of 10,000 g/mol or more (GPC-PS) of the polymer prior to functionalization, ii) where in the functional group is derived from an acylating agent and a compound containing amino and/or hydroxyl groups, and iii) optionally, wherein the homopolymer or copolymer backbone is derived from monomers selected from the group consisting of C2 to C30 (such as linear) alpha olefins and C4 to C20 conjugated dienes; where PIBSA-PAM having an Mn of 1,600 g/mol or more (GPC-PS) is absent or substantially absent from the lubricating oil composition, or, if present, is present in an amount such that the weight ratio of the functionalized polymer (B) to the high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM is at least 0.25:1.
A lubricating oil composition comprising:
The lubricating oil composition of 25, wherein the base oil comprises at least 50 mass % of a group II base oil, based on the total mass of base oil present in the lubricating oil composition.
A concentrate comprising or resulting from the admixing of:
A method of improving the total deposit performance, as determined by MHT-4 TEOST (ASTM D7097), of a lubricating oil composition containing high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM dispersant, by partly replacing or fully replacing the high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM in the lubricating oil composition by a functionalized polymer, such that the weight ratio of the functionalized polymer to the high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM is at least 2:1, where the functionalized polymer comprises a partially or fully saturated olefin homopolymer or copolymer backbone, wherein the homopolymer or copolymer backbone comprises isoprene and at least one functional group, having:
A method of reducing interaction of components in lubricating oil compositions/concentrates containing high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM dispersant,
A method of reducing the treat rate of one or more of antioxidant, detergent, friction modifier, and viscosity modifier in a lubricating oil composition containing high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM dispersant, without compromising the performance of the lubricating oil composition in MHT-4 TEOST deposit formation test in accordance with ASTM D7097, the method comprising partly or fully replacing the high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM dispersant with a functionalized polymer where the functionalized polymer comprises a partially or fully saturated olefin homopolymer or copolymer backbone, wherein the homopolymer or copolymer backbone comprises isoprene and at least one functional group, having:
A method of reducing the treat rate of concentrate additive packages in lubricating oil compositions containing high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM dispersant by partly or fully replacing high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM dispersant with a functionalized polymer in the concentrate add-pack, where the functionalized polymer comprises a partially or fully saturated olefin homopolymer or copolymer backbone, wherein the homopolymer or copolymer backbone comprises isoprene and at least one functional group, having:
A method of increasing the anti-wear/friction reduction capability, as determined by the Average Friction/Traction coefficient determined using a High Frequency Reciprocating Rig, of a lubricating oil composition containing high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM dispersant, the method comprising including a functionalized polymer in addition to the high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM, or partly replacing or fully replacing the high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM in the lubricating oil composition by such a functionalized polymer, such that the weight ratio of the functionalized polymer to the high molecular weight PIBSA-PAM is at least 2:1, where the functionalized polymer comprises a partially or fully saturated olefin homopolymer or copolymer backbone, wherein the homopolymer or copolymer backbone comprises isoprene and at least one functional group, having:
