Wall mounted exercise machine

A wall mountable exercise machine, comprising:

• an elongated pillar configured for vertical mounting at a minimum of two locations along a first vertical wall stud, the elongated pillar having a first width;
• a resistance motor within a housing associated with the elongated pillar;
• a spool configured to be rotated by the resistance motor;
• a cable running along at least a portion of the elongated pillar and having a first end fastened to the spool and a second end for receiving exercise forces including a torque component that exerts a twisting force on the pillar;
• at least one bracket configured to secure the elongated pillar to the first vertical wall stud at the minimum of two locations, the at least one bracket having a second width equal to or less than the first width;
• and
• a bar having a first end configured for connection to an intermediate location on the elongated pillar and a second end configured for connection to a second stud spaced from the first stud to thereby resist the torque component of the exercise force on the elongated pillar and to prevent the elongated pillar from being ripped from the wall as the result of the torque component that exerts a twisting force on the elongated pillar, wherein the bar includes a shelf.
