Abstract
A mattress system can include a foam layer positioned proximate a mattress top and having a head end, a foot end, and opposite lateral ends, a mattress core positioned under the foam layer, and a sensor strip. The sensor strip can include a carrier strip and a plurality of sensors attached to the carrier strip and spaced apart from each other in a longitudinal direction of the carrier strip. The carrier strip can be configured to be releasably attached to the foam layer. The carrier strip can also extend between the opposite lateral ends of the foam layer.

A mattress system comprising:
- a mattress defining a top surface;
- and
- a sensor strip configured to be positioned above the top surface of the mattress, the sensor strip comprising:
- a carrier strip comprising:
- a first strip surface oriented to face the top surface of the mattress;
- a second strip surface opposite the first strip surface, the second strip surface oriented to face away from the top surface of the mattress;
- and
- a plurality of openings extending through the carrier strip from the first strip surface to the second strip surface;
- and
- a plurality of sensors attached to the first strip surface of the carrier strip and exposed to a space above the top surface of the mattress through the plurality of openings.
A mattress comprising:
- a first mattress layer defining a layer top surface;
- and
- a sensor strip positioned on the layer top surface, the sensor strip comprising:
- a carrier strip comprising:
- a first strip surface oriented to at least partially engage the layer top surface;
- a second strip surface opposite the first strip surface, the second strip surface oriented to face away from the layer top surface;
- and
- a plurality of openings extending through the carrier strip from the first strip surface to the second strip surface;
- and
- a plurality of sensors attached to the first strip surface of the carrier strip and exposed to a space above the layer top surface through the plurality of openings.
A sleep system comprising:
- a foam layer defined by a top surface, a head end, a foot end, and opposite lateral sides extending between the head end and the foot end, the foam layer comprising a first portion configured to support a first sleeper and a second portion configured to support a second sleeper;
- at least one first fluid chamber positioned under the first portion of the foam layer;
- at least one second fluid chamber positioned under the second portion of the foam layer;
- a controller configured to supply a fluid to modify a temperature at the top surface of the foam layer based on a sensor condition;
- and
- a sensor strip comprising:
- a carrier strip comprising a plurality of openings extending therethrough, the carrier strip releasably attached to the foam layer;
- a plurality of sensors attached to a surface of the carrier strip facing the top surface of the foam layer and exposed to a space above the top surface of the foam layer through the plurality of openings, the plurality of sensors configured to detect the sensor condition;
- and
- a plurality of wires extending between the plurality of sensors and the controller.
