Abstract
Inventive embodiments disclosed herein include a catheter for dilating a sinus cavity lumen. The catheter includes a guide tube, having a proximal end and a distal end, that terminates in a distal tip; a sleeve member annularly positioned over the guide tube, wherein the sleeve member is movable relative to the guide tube and is capable of being advanced over the guide tube; and a balloon coupled to the sleeve member, wherein the balloon can be extendable and inflated at or beyond the end of the guide tube.
Claims20
A method of using a balloon dilation device, comprising:
- inserting the balloon dilation device into a nasal cavity, wherein the balloon dilation device comprises:
- a guide tube, having a proximal end and a distal end, the distal end terminating in a distal tip,
- a sleeve member annularly positioned over the guide tube,
- a balloon coupled to the sleeve member, and
- a handle disposed along a proximal portion of the guide tube, the handle comprising a pushing member moveable in a distal direction relative to the handle and operatively coupled to the sleeve member;
- advancing the guide tube through the nasal cavity to an anatomical space of interest;
- moving the pushing member in the distal direction relative to the handle to (i) advance the sleeve member and the balloon over the guide tube in the distal direction and (ii) advance at least a portion of the balloon in the distal direction past the distal tip of the guide tube;
- and
- inflating the balloon while at least the portion of the balloon extends beyond the distal tip of the guide tube.
A method of using a balloon dilation device, comprising:
- inserting the balloon dilation device into a nasal cavity, wherein the balloon dilation device comprises:
- a handle having a proximal end and a distal end,
- a guide tube, having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the guide tube extends longitudinally from the distal end of the handle in a distal direction, wherein the distal end terminates in a distal tip,
- a sleeve member annularly positioned over the guide tube, and
- a balloon coupled to the sleeve member;
- advancing the guide tube through the nasal cavity to an anatomical space of interest;
- moving the sleeve member from a retracted position on the guide tube to an extended position on the guide tube, wherein the sleeve member is advanced over the guide tube and past the distal tip in the extended position, wherein the guide tube is contained inside the sleeve member in the retracted position and the extended position, wherein moving the sleeve member from the retracted position to the extended position moves the balloon relative to the guide tube;
- and
- after moving the sleeve member to the extended position, inflating the balloon while at least a portion of the balloon extends beyond the distal tip of the guide tube.
