Silicone-(meth)acrylate copolymer and methods for its preparation and use in personal care compositions

A copolymer obtained by copolymerizing a mixture of monomers comprising:

• i) 15 weight % to 45 weight %, based on combined weights of the monomers, of an acrylate monomer of formula
• ii) 15 weight % to 40 weight %, based on combined weights of the monomers, of a (meth)acrylate monomer of formula
• and
• iii) 20 weight % to 60 weight %, based on combined weights of the monomers, of an organosiloxane-(meth)acrylate macro-monomer of formula XSi(R4)3, where
• R1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl,
• R2 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms,
• R3 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group of 8 to 13 carbon atoms,
• each X is a (meth) acryloxyalkyl group,
• each R4 is selected from —OSi(R5)3 and R, with the proviso that at least two of R4 are —OSi(R5)3;
• where each R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group;
• where each R5 is selected from R, -DSi(R6)3, and —[OSiR2]mOSiR3;
• where each R6 is selected from R, -DSi(R7)3, and —[OSiR2]mOSiR3;
• where each R7 is selected from R, -DSi(R8)3, and —[OSiR2]mOSiR3;
• where each R8 is selected from R and —[OSiR2]mOSiR3;
• where each D is selected from oxygen and a divalent hydrocarbon group, and where 0≤m≤100, and
• iv) 5 weight % to 20 weight %, based on combined weight of the monomers, of an itaconate ester monomer of formula
• where each R9 is an independently selected alkyl group of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and where iv) the itaconate ester monomer comprises dibutyl itaconate.
