Abstract
Methods of forming hollow nanoparticles, methods of making templates for use in forming hollow nanoparticles, templates made by such methods, and hollow nanoparticles formed by such methods and templates.
Claims11
A method for making a template for use in forming hollow nanoparticles, the method comprising:
- providing an aqueous solution comprising a salt;
- providing a solvent solution comprising a solvent and an alkanolamine;
- combining the aqueous solution with the solvent solution forming a solvent mixture, the solvent mixture comprising salt core nanoparticles formed from precipitation of the salt;
- and
- adding a precursor compound to the solvent mixture, wherein the precursor compound and the alkanolamine interact electrostatically to form insoluble outer shells over the salt core nanoparticles, thereby forming core/shell nanoparticles.
