Abstract
The present invention relates to a device and system for fixation of intra-articular and extra-articular fractures and non-unions of small bones and other small bone fragments, and more particularly to a threaded nail with a robust length and a trailing end with a cutting tip and longitudinal cutting flutes and a stepped diameter with cutting flutes at the transition point, and an optional cannulation along the central longitudinal axis of the nail.
Claims20
An intramedullary implant comprising:
- a first end portion with a first external diameter;
- a second end portion with a second external diameter;
- and
- a transition portion between the first end portion and the second end portion, the transition portion including at least one cutting flute,
- wherein the intramedullary implant comprises a thread extending from the first end portion to the second end portion, and wherein the thread comprises a double lead thread.
A device for fixation of a metacarpal fracture, the device comprising:
- a first end portion with a first external diameter,
- a second end portion with a second external diameter;
- a transition portion between the first end portion and the second end portion, the transition portion including at least one cutting flute, wherein the at least one cutting flute is formed at an angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the device,
- wherein the device comprises a thread extending from the first end portion to the second end portion, and
- wherein the second external diameter is 0.4 to 2 mm smaller than the first external diameter.
