Minimally invasive pedicle screw extension sleeve system

A method comprising:

• inserting a wire through a cannulated sheath;
• placing a dilator over the wire, the dilator forming a working portal;
• placing a screw over the wire and within the dilator, wherein:
• (a) the screw is included within an orifice of a conduit;
• (b) the conduit includes a lever and first and second side walls that define at least a portion of an open slot;
• (c) the lever couples to the first side wall at a first location and the second side wall at a second location;
• (d) a first void is between first and second projections of the first side wall;
• and (e) at least a portion of the first location is recessed from an exterior edge of the first side wall and at least a portion of the second location is recessed from an exterior edge of the second side wall;
• placing a rod within the open slot and coupling the rod to a base of the screw;
• and
• fatiguing the lever to disconnect the lever from the conduit and then fatiguing the first and second sidewalls to decouple them from the screw.
