System and method for efficient use of network bandwidth

A system, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory in communication with the processor and storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to perform operations including:
• generating content consumption data for a user of a mobile device according to a first network connection status of the mobile device, a second network connection status of the mobile device, and a content log of the mobile device that identifies previous content requests entered by the user into the mobile device at different times;
• generating, based on the content consumption data, a prefetching schedule of content anticipated to be requested;
• and
• downloading a content item from a network source to the mobile device according to the prefetching schedule before a content request for the content item is received from the user.

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

• generating content consumption data for a user of a mobile device according to a first network connection status of the mobile device, a second network connection status of the mobile device, and a content log of the mobile device that identifies previous content requests entered by the user into the mobile device at different times;
• generating, based on the content consumption data, a prefetching schedule of content anticipated to be requested;
• and
• downloading a content item from a network source to the mobile device according to the prefetching schedule before a content request for the content item is received from the user.
