Abstract
An electronic label (e-label) device that monitors situational data and displays an e-label. When the device detects an appearance modification event trigger based on the situational data, it modifies the appearance of the e-label being displayed by the e-label device, for example, by enlarging the machine-readable portion (e.g., barcode portion) of the displayed e-label. A related method and computer program product are also described.

An e-label device for displaying an electronic label (e-label) on a product, the e-label being affixed to the product, the e-label device comprising:
- a display screen that displays the e-label;
- one or more devices configured to provide situational data associated with the e-label device, the situational data comprising data associated with one or more electronic external devices when the product is in a presence of the one or more electronic external devices;
- an electronic logic circuit that is operably coupled to the display screen and the one or more devices,
- wherein the electronic logic circuit is configured to:
- detect, automatically and using the electronic logic circuit, an appearance modification event trigger based on the situational data, the appearance modification event trigger detected based on sensor data from sensors implemented by the e-label device, the sensor data including at least one of accelerometer data, gyroscope data, position data, or camera data;
- determine, automatically and using the electronic logic circuit, an orientation of the product based on the gyroscope data and the accelerometer data;
- and
- modify, automatically and using the electronic logic circuit, based on the situational data and the orientation, an appearance of the e-label on the display screen in response to the appearance modification event trigger, the appearance modification event trigger defining at least one of conditions or criteria indicating when the product is within a threshold distance of the one or more electronic external devices, the modified appearance of the e-label including an enlargement of a scanning portion of the product.
A method for displaying an electronic label (e-label) for a product, the method comprising:
- determining situational data of one or more electronic external device based on electronic signals received from the one or more electronic external device when the product is in the presence of the one or more electronic external device;
- detecting, automatically and using an electronic logic circuit, an appearance modification event trigger based on the situational data, the appearance modification event trigger detected based on sensor data from sensors implemented by the e-label device, the sensor data including at least one of accelerometer data, gyroscope data, position data, or camera data;
- determining, automatically and using the electronic logic circuit, an orientation of the product based on the gyroscope data and the accelerometer data;
- and
- modifying, automatically and using the electronic logic circuit, based on the situational data and the orientation, an appearance of the e-label on a display screen in response to the appearance modification event trigger, the appearance modification event trigger defining at least one of conditions or criteria indicating when the product is within a threshold distance of the one or more electronic external device, the modified appearance of the e-label including an enlargement of a scanning portion of the product.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions for an e-label device to display an electronic label (e-label) for a product that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing system, cause the computing system to perform operations, the operations comprising:
- determining situational data of one or more electronic external device when the product is in a presence of the one or more electronic external device;
- detecting, automatically and using an electronic logic circuit, an appearance modification event trigger based on the situational data, the appearance modification event trigger detected based on sensor data from sensors implemented by the e-label device, the sensor data including at least one of accelerometer data, gyroscope data, position data, or camera data;
- determining, automatically and using the electronic logic circuit, an orientation of the product based on the gyroscope data and the accelerometer data;
- and
- modifying, automatically and using the electronic logic circuit, based on the situational data and the orientation, an appearance of the e-label on a display screen of the e-label device in response to the appearance modification event trigger, the appearance modification event trigger defining at least one of conditions or criteria indicating when the product is within a threshold distance of the one or more electronic external devices, the modified appearance of the e-label including an enlargement of a scanning portion of the product.
