Abstract
Provided are compounds that may function as functionalized polymerization initiators, for instance in the manufacture of ophthalmic lenses, and to methods of such manufacture. The compounds are of formula I: wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, p, q, r, s, v, w, and X1 are as defined herein.
Claims21
A compound of formula I:
- wherein p, q, r, and s are independently at each occurrence 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5;
- X1 is a bridging group optionally containing one or more repeating segments;
- v and w are independently an integer ranging from 1 to 3000;
- R1 and R2, when present, are independently at each occurrence alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, or halo;
- R3 and R4, when present, are independently at each occurrence alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, halo, or a moiety of formula II:
- wherein formula II is linked to formula I via X2, wherein X2 is a bridging group.
