Abstract
An accurate and precise surgical guide for dental procedures, especially a procedure involving a subject with few or no teeth as well as methods for making and use of such guides.
Claims9
A dental implantation method for a patient missing one or more teeth, comprising:
- fitting or installing a 3D printed bone supported maxillary sinus surgical guide adjacent to a maxilla in the mouth of the patient thereby marking access to the sinus, then
- installing a tooth implant in the maxilla of the patient, wherein during the installing one or more surgical instrument is viewed and positioned with the 3D printed bone supported sinus surgical guide;
- wherein prior to the placement of the 3D printed bone supported sinus surgical guide in the mouth of the patient, the method further comprises:
- making the 3D printed bone supported maxillary sinus surgical guide by:
- obtaining an STL file describing a maxillary bone structure of the patient as imaged by cone beam computerized tomography (“CBCT”);
- producing an STL file describing the 3D printed bone-supported maxillary sinus surgical guide using implant planning software and the STL file describing the maxillary bone structure of the patient;
- 3D printing the 3D printed bone-supported maxillary sinus surgical guide from a UV curable resin using the STL file describing the 3D printed bone-supported maxillary sinus surgical guide, and curing the UV curable resin with light;
- 3D printing a scale model that comprises maxillary surfaces in contact with the 3D printed bone-supported maxillary sinus surgical guide from a UV curable resin using the STL file describing the maxillary bone structure of the patient, and curing the UV curable resin with light;
- and
- test fitting the 3D printed bone-supported maxillary sinus surgical guide to the scale model.
