Sighting systems, components, and methods

A method of making windage adjustments to a sighting system mounted on a firearm, the sighting system comprising a sight base, a top surface disposed on the sight base, a pedestal protruding above the top surface, a sighting component, a pair of set screws each having a tapered end, a pair of tapped borings each disposed on a lateral side the sighting component opposite of the other tapped boring and each configured to receive one of the set screws, a pair of tapered borings each disposed on a lateral sides the pedestal opposite of the other tapered boring and each configured to at least partially accept one of the tapered ends, the method comprising the steps of:

• (1) aiming the firearm at a sighting point on a target and firing a test shot at the target,
• (2) determining the lateral direction in which the sighting component needs to be moved to adjust the point of impact to the sighting point,
• (3) withdrawing the set screw from the tapped boring disposed on the side of the sighting component opposite the determined lateral direction,
• (4) advancing the other set screw into tapped boring disposed on the same side of the sighting component as the determined lateral direction,
• (5) tightening each of the tapered ends against a respective tapered boring,
• (6) aiming the firearm at a sighting point on a target and firing a test shot at the target, and
• (7) repeating steps (2)-(7) until proper windage alignment is achieved.

A sight base for a sight system for a projectile launching device, the sight base having a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction, and the sight base comprising:

• a lower surface;
• a first channel in the lower surface disposed centered laterally on the lower surface proximal to a longitudinal end of the sight base;
• a second channel in the lower surface disposed proximal to a first lateral side of the lower surface;
• a third channel in the lower surface disposed proximal to a second lateral side of the lower surface;
• a first pin disposed in the first channel and protruding proud of the lower surface;
• a second pin disposed in the second channel and protruding proud of the lower surface;
• and
• a third pin disposed in the third channel and protruding proud of the lower surface.
