Abstract
A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system having a workstring, a setting tool assembly coupled with the workstring, and a downhole tool coupled with the setting tool assembly in a run-in configuration. In a set configuration the downhole tool is disconnected from the setting tool assembly. At least one component of the downhole tool is made of a dissolvable material.
Claims18
A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system comprising:
- a workstring;
- a setting tool assembly coupled to the workstring, the setting tool assembly further comprising:
- a tension mandrel comprising a first tension mandrel end;
- a downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel comprising:
- a distal end;
- a proximate end;
- an inner flowbore;
- an inner surface;
- a ball seat disposed on the inner surface;
- and an outer surface, a slip proximate the distal end;
- and a lower sleeve proximate to the slip in a run-in configuration,
- wherein in the run-in configuration the tension mandrel is disposed through the downhole tool and in direct contact with the lower sleeve,
- wherein in a set configuration the tension mandrel is no longer in direct contact with the lower sleeve, and the tension mandrel is removed from the downhole tool, while at the same time the lower sleeve remains coupled with and part of the downhole tool,
- wherein the slip comprises an at least one slip groove that forms a lateral opening in the slip that is defined by the at least one slip groove having a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface;
- and
- wherein the inner surface comprises a first inner surface having a constant first inner diameter from the ball seat to the distal end, and wherein the inner surface has a second inner surface between the ball seat and the proximate end of a second inner diameter that is larger than the first inner diameter.
A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system comprising:
- a setting tool assembly comprising:
- a tension mandrel comprising a first tension mandrel end;
- a downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel comprising:
- a distal end;
- a proximate end;
- an inner flowbore;
- an inner surface;
- a ball seat formed on and integral to the inner surface at a location between the distal end and the proximate end;
- and an outer surface;
- a carrier ring movingly disposed on the outer surface;
- a slip proximate the distal end;
- and
- a lower sleeve proximate with the slip in a run-in configuration,
- wherein in the run-in configuration the tension mandrel is disposed through the downhole tool and in direct contact with the lower sleeve,
- wherein in a set configuration the tension mandrel is is removed from the downhole tool,
- wherein the outer surface comprises a first angled surface, a second angled surface, and a crest,
- wherein the first angled surface is disposed between the distal end and the crest, and the second angled surface is disposed between the proximate end and the crest, and
- wherein regardless of the run-in configuration or the set configuration a relative position of the ball seat is disposed between the carrier ring and the slip.
A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system comprising:
- a setting tool assembly comprising:
- a tension mandrel comprising a tension mandrel end;
- a downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel comprising:
- a distal end;
- a proximate end;
- an inner flowbore;
- an inner flowbore surface, a ball seat disposed on the inner flowbore surface, and an outer surface, a slip proximate the distal end;
- and
- a lower sleeve proximate to, and also in direct contact with, the slip in a run-in configuration,
- wherein in the run-in configuration the tension mandrel end is disposed through the downhole tool and in direct contact with the lower sleeve,
- wherein in a set configuration the tension mandrel end is no longer in direct contact with the lower sleeve, and the tension mandrel end is removed from the downhole tool,
- wherein the slip comprises an at least one slip groove that forms a lateral opening in the slip having a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface, and wherein the outer surface is void of threads;
- and
- wherein the inner surface comprises a first inner surface having a constant first inner diameter from the ball seat to the distal end, and wherein the inner surface has a second inner surface between the ball seat and the proximate end of a second inner diameter that is larger than the first inner diameter.
