Abstract
Disclosed are transgenic plant expressing a fungal protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) enzyme and methods for conferring Herbicide Tolerance (HT) to PPO-type inhibitor herbicides, and controlling weeds, by selectively protecting the transgenic crop expressing the fungal PPO enzyme.

A transgenic plant comprising a nucleic acid encoding an exogenous fungal-derived Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase (PPO) enzyme conferring resistance to at least one PPO-inhibitor herbicide, wherein the exogenous fungal-derived PPO enzyme comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 95% similarity to the amino acid sequence of any one of:
