Catheter blood pumps and external fluid control consoles

A fluid management system for a catheter blood pump, comprising:

• a fluid cassette including a first fluid line and a second fluid line;
• and
• a console including a first pump and a second pump configured to releasably couple with the fluid cassette, wherein the console is configured to secure the fluid cassette in an engaged position in which:
• the first pump is operational to pump fluid to the catheter blood pump via the first fluid line, and
• the second pump is operational to pump fluid to the catheter blood pump via the second fluid line;
• wherein the first fluid line is directed to a sheath of the catheter blood pump, and the second fluid line is directed to a cannula of the catheter blood pump;
• and wherein fluid flow through the first fluid line to the sheath of the catheter blood pump prevents blood from entering an annular space between the sheath and the cannula of the catheter blood pump.
