Abstract
Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a base station (BS) transmits, to a user equipment (UE), a first configuration of a first radio access network notification area (RNA) associated with paging of the UE while the UE is in an radio resource control (RRC) INACTIVE state, the first RNA comprising a first set of cells. In a further aspect, the BS transmits, to the UE, a second configuration of a second RNA associated with positioning of the UE while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state, the second RNA comprising a subset of the first set of cells.

A method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE), comprising:
- receiving a first configuration of a first radio access network notification area (RNA) associated with paging of the UE while the UE is in a radio resource control inactive (RRC INACTIVE) state, the first RNA comprising a first set of cells;
- and
- receiving a second configuration of a second RNA associated with positioning of the UE while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state,
- wherein the first RNA and the second RNA are concurrently active for a duration of time while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state.
A method of wireless communication performed by a wireless network component, comprising:
- transmitting a first configuration of a first radio access network notification area (RNA) associated with paging of a user equipment (UE) while the UE is in a radio resource control inactive (RRC INACTIVE) state, the first RNA comprising a first set of cells;
- and
- transmitting a second configuration of a second RNA associated with positioning of the UE while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state,
- wherein the first RNA and the second RNA are concurrently active for a duration of time while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state.
A user equipment (UE), comprising:
- a memory;
- at least one transceiver;
- and
- at least one processor communicatively coupled to the memory and the at least one transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
- receive, via the at least one transceiver, a first configuration of a first radio access network notification area (RNA) associated with paging of the UE while the UE is in a radio resource control inactive (RRC INACTIVE) state, the first RNA comprising a first set of cells;
- and
- receive, via the at least one transceiver, a second configuration of a second RNA associated with positioning of the UE while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state,
- wherein the first RNA and the second RNA are concurrently active for a duration of time while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state.
A wireless network component, comprising:
- a memory;
- at least one transceiver;
- and
- at least one processor communicatively coupled to the memory and the at least one transceiver, the at least one processor configured to:
- transmit, via the at least one transceiver, a first configuration of a first radio access network notification area (RNA) associated with paging of a user equipment (UE) while the UE is in a radio resource control inactive (RRC INACTIVE) state, the first RNA comprising a first set of cells;
- and
- transmit, via the at least one transceiver, a second configuration of a second RNA associated with positioning of the UE while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state,
- wherein the first RNA and the second RNA are concurrently active for a duration of time while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state.
A user equipment (UE), comprising:
- means for receiving a first configuration of a first radio access network notification area (RNA) associated with paging of the UE while the UE is in a radio resource control inactive (RRC INACTIVE) state, the first RNA comprising a first set of cells;
- and
- means for receiving a second configuration of a second RNA associated with positioning of the UE while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state,
- wherein the first RNA and the second RNA are concurrently active for a duration of time while the UE is in the RRC INACTIVE state.
