Abstract
Systems, methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to facilitate discovery and remote configuration of content for playback via a multimedia playback network are disclosed. An example method includes facilitating identification of multimedia content being played, the identification including at least one of a content identifier associated with the content and the content itself. An example method includes relaying at least one of the content identifier and the content to a playback system located remotely from a location of the multimedia content playback, at least one of the content identifier and the content remotely added for playback at the playback system.
Claims23
A method performed by a cloud-based computing system, the method comprising:
- receiving first authentication data comprising identification information corresponding to a first playback device;
- authenticating the first playback device as part of a playback network based at least in part on the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- storing the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- authenticating a controller to add content to a playback queue based on second authentication data received from the controller, wherein the playback queue identifies content to be played back by the first playback device, wherein the second authentication data is different than the first authentication data, and wherein the playback queue is stored at the cloud-based computing system;
- receiving, from the controller, an instruction to add a first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
- and
- after authenticating the controller and receiving the instruction to add the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system:
- (A) adding the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
- and (B) using the identification information corresponding to the first playback device to transmit one or more messages that collectively cause the first playback device to (i) obtain, from the cloud-based computing system, one or more content identifiers that are in the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system, wherein the one or more content identifiers comprise the first content identifier, (ii) while the first playback device is authenticated as part of the playback network, use at least one of the one or more content identifiers in the playback queue to retrieve at least one content item from a cloud-based content service, and (iii) play back the at least one content item retrieved from the cloud-based content service.
Tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media having program instructions stored therein, wherein the program instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause a cloud-based computing system to perform functions comprising:
- receiving first authentication data comprising identification information corresponding to a first playback device;
- authenticating the first playback device as part of a playback network based at least in part on the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- storing the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- authenticating a controller to add content to a playback queue based on second authentication data received from the controller, wherein the playback queue identifies content to be played back by the first playback device, wherein the second authentication data is different than the first authentication data, and wherein the playback queue is stored at the cloud-based computing system;
- receiving, from the controller, an instruction to add a first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
- and
- after authenticating the controller and receiving the instruction to add the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system:
- (A) adding the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
A cloud-based computing system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media having program instructions stored therein, wherein the program instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the cloud-based computing system to:
- receive first authentication data comprising identification information corresponding to a first playback device;
- authenticate the first playback device as part of a playback network based at least in part on the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- store the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- authenticate a controller to add content to a playback queue based on second authentication data received from the controller, wherein the playback queue identifies content to be played back by the first playback device, wherein the second authentication data is different than the first authentication data, and wherein the playback queue is stored at the cloud-based computing system;
- receive, from the controller, an instruction to add a first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
- and
- after authenticating the controller and receiving the instruction to add the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system:
- (A) add the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
- and (B) use the identification information corresponding to the first playback device to transmit one or more messages that collectively cause the first playback device to (i) obtain, from the cloud-based computing system, one or more content identifiers that are in the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system, wherein the one or more content identifiers comprise the first content identifier, (ii) while the first playback device is authenticated as part of the playback network, use at least one of the one or more content identifiers in the playback queue to retrieve at least one content item from a cloud-based content service, and (iii) play back the at least one content item retrieved from the cloud-based content service.
A system comprising a cloud-based computing system and a first playback device, wherein:
- the cloud-based computing system comprises a first set of one or more processors, and first tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media having first program instructions stored therein, wherein the first program instructions, when executed by the first set of one or more processors, cause the cloud-based computing system to:
- (i) receive first authentication data comprising identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- (ii) authenticate the first playback device as part of a playback network based at least in part on the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- (iii) store the identification information corresponding to the first playback device;
- (iv) authenticate a controller to add content to a playback queue based on second authentication data received from the controller, wherein the playback queue identifies content to be played back by the first playback device, wherein the second authentication data is different than the first authentication data, and wherein the playback queue is stored at the cloud-based computing system;
- (v) receive, from the controller, an instruction to add a first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
- and (vi) after authenticating the controller and receiving the instruction to add the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system:
- (A) add the first content identifier to the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system;
- and (B) use the identification information corresponding to the first playback device to transmit one or more messages that collectively cause the first playback device to obtain and playback at least one content item from a cloud-based content service;
- and
- the first playback device comprises a second set of one or more processors, and second tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media having second program instructions stored therein, wherein the second program instructions, when executed by the second set of one or more processors, cause the first playback device to, after receiving, from the cloud-based computing system, the one or more messages that collectively cause the first playback device to obtain and playback the at least one content item from the cloud-based content service:
- (i) obtain, from the cloud-based computing system, one or more content identifiers that are in the playback queue at the cloud-based computing system, wherein the one or more content identifiers comprise the first content identifier, (ii) while the first playback device is authenticated as part of the playback network, use at least one of the one or more content identifiers in the playback queue to retrieve at least one content item from the cloud-based content service, and (iii) play back the at least one content item retrieved from the cloud-based content service.
