Cloud-based replication to cloud-external systems

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions, which when executed, cause a processor to:

• receive a request to replicate a copy of a dataset from a first storage system of one or more storage systems that are external to a cloud environment, wherein the request comprises information relating to one or more transactions previously applied to the dataset;
• identify, by the processor, a second storage system from one or more storage systems that are external to the cloud environment using information describing one or more states of the one or more storage systems;
• restore, to the second storage system, the dataset that was received from the first storage system;
• and
• receive one or more snapshots of the dataset, wherein the one or more snapshots of the dataset are encrypted.

A system comprising:

• a memory storing program instructions;
• and
• a processor operatively coupled to the memory, configured to execute the program instructions to:
• receive a request to replicate a copy of a dataset from a first storage system of one or more storage systems that are external to a cloud environment, wherein the request comprises information relating to one or more transactions previously applied to the dataset;
• identify, by the processor, a second storage system from one or more storage systems that are external to the cloud environment using information describing one or more states of the one or more storage systems;
• restore, to the second storage system, a dataset that was received from the first storage system;
• and
• receive one or more snapshots of the dataset, wherein the one or more snapshots of the dataset are encrypted.
