Abstract
A method includes scanning a thickness of a workpiece in at least one point using a thickness sensor, determining that the workpiece is out of alignment in a cutting machine using the thickness sensor, and realigning the workpiece relative to the cutting machine or adjusting a machining operation using a controller of the cutting machine in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment.
Claims18
A method, comprising:
- scanning a thickness of a workpiece in at least one point using a thickness sensor;
- determining that the workpiece is out of alignment in a cutting machine using the thickness sensor;
- and
- realigning the workpiece relative to the cutting machine in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment, wherein realigning comprises moving a central axis of the workpiece relative to the cutting machine.
A method, comprising:
- scanning a thickness of a workpiece in at least one point using a thickness sensor, wherein the thickness sensor comprises an electromagnetic acoustic transducer;
- determining that the workpiece is out of alignment in a cutting machine using the thickness sensor;
- and
- realigning the workpiece relative to the cutting machine or adjusting a machining operation using a controller of the cutting machine in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment.
A method, comprising:
- scanning a thickness of a workpiece in at least one point using a thickness sensor, wherein the thickness sensor is a wireless sensor;
- determining that the workpiece is out of alignment in a cutting machine using the thickness sensor;
- and
- realigning the workpiece relative to the cutting machine or adjusting a machining operation using a controller of the cutting machine in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment.
A system, comprising:
- a machining tool configured to cut a workpiece;
- a sensor configured to detect a thickness of a wall of the workpiece;
- and
- a controller for controlling a machining operation using the machining tool, the controller being coupled to the machining tool and to the sensor, the controller being configured to:
- receive signals from the sensor representing the thickness,
- determine that the workpiece is out of alignment with the machining tool in response to the signals, and
- adjust a position and/or orientation of the machining tool, the workpiece, or both, in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment with the machining tool, wherein adjusting comprises moving a central axis of the workpiece relative to the machining tool.
A system, comprising:
- a machining tool configured to cut a workpiece;
- a sensor configured to detect a thickness of a wall of the workpiece, wherein the sensor comprises an electromagnetic acoustic transducer;
- and
- a controller for controlling a machining operation using the machining tool, the controller being coupled to the machining tool and to the sensor, the controller being configured to:
- receive signals from the sensor representing the thickness,
- determine that the workpiece is out of alignment with the machining tool in response to the signals, and
- adjust a position and/or orientation of the machining tool, the workpiece, or both, in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment with the machining tool.
A system, comprising:
- a machining tool configured to cut a workpiece;
- a sensor configured to detect a thickness of a wall of the workpiece;
- and
- a controller for controlling a machining operation using the machining tool, the controller being coupled to the machining tool and to the sensor, the controller being configured to:
- receive signals from the sensor representing the thickness,
- determine that the workpiece is out of alignment with the machining tool in response to the signals,
- adjust a position and/or orientation of the machining tool, the workpiece, or both, in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment with the machining tool;
- compare measurements generated by scanning the workpiece using the sensor with one or more target measurements, and
- determine one or more operations to conduct and one or more operations to omit based on the comparing.
A system, comprising:
- a machining tool configured to cut a workpiece;
- a sensor configured to detect a thickness of a wall of the workpiece, wherein the sensor comprises an electromagnetic acoustic transducer;
- and
- a controller coupled to the machining tool and to the sensor, and comprising a processor and one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the controller to perform operations, the operations comprising:
- scanning a thickness of a workpiece in at least one point using a thickness sensor;
- determining that the workpiece is out of alignment in a cutting machine using the thickness sensor;
- and
- realigning the workpiece relative to the cutting machine or adjusting a machining operation using a controller of the cutting machine in response to determining that the workpiece is out of alignment.
