Abstract
A propulsor fan and drive system having reduced noise emission is disclosed. The propulsor fan includes a blade fan having a plurality of blades. The blade fan is tensioned at the tips of the plurality of blades. By tensioning the tips of the blades, an angle of the blades is maintained during operation of the propulsor fan thereby reducing noise that may result from changes in the angle of the blades.
Claims20
A method of propulsor fan operation comprising:
- providing a propulsor fan comprising:
- a first ring having a first diameter;
- a second ring having a second diameter larger than the first diameter;
- twisted blades radially extending between and connected to the first ring and the second ring, wherein the first ring and the second ring tension the twisted blades such that a pitch of the blades during operation is substantially the same as a pitch of the blades at rest, and wherein each twisted blade comprises:
- a first end connected to the first ring at a first angle;
- and
- a second end, opposite the first end, comprising a blade tip and connected to the second ring at a second angle different than the first angle;
- and
- rotating the propulsor fan at a blade tip speed of 300-450 feet per second to provide an ultrasonic blade passage frequency.

A propulsor fan comprising:
- a first ring having a first diameter;
- a second ring having a second diameter larger than the first diameter;
- a quantity of twisted blades radially extending between and connected to the first ring and the second ring, wherein the first ring and the second ring tension the twisted blades such that a pitch of the blades during operation is substantially the same as a pitch of the blades at rest, wherein the quantity of twisted blades is configured to provide an ultrasonic blade passage frequency based on the propulsor fan rotating at a blade tip speed of 300-450 feet per second, and wherein each twisted blade comprises:
- a first end connected to the first ring at a first angle;
- and
- a second end, opposite the first end, comprising a blade tip and connected to the second ring at a second angle different than the first angle.
