Abstract
Disclosed is a plurality of LED packages that are connected in a parallel array. A plurality of parallel arrays can also be connected in series to form a series connected parallel array. The LED packages include backup LEDs to provide reliability and continued operation of the LED packages. The LED packages present a standardized impedance in which the resistive values of a series resistor and a parallel resistor are selected to moderate the flow of current when the LEDs become either shorted or open circuited.
Claims8
A method of creating a reliable and hardwired array of a plurality of LED packages, connected in parallel, that moderate a change in current flow in light emitting diodes in said LED packages whenever at least one of said light emitting diodes in said plurality of LED packages becomes short circuited, and whenever at least one of said light emitting diodes in said plurality of LED packages becomes open circuited, and to maintain illumination of each LED package in said hardwired array of said plurality of LED packages whenever said at least one of said light emitting diodes in said plurality of LED packages is open circuited, said method of designing said reliable and hardwired array of said plurality of LED packages comprising:
- providing a primary light emitting diode in each of said LED packages;
- creating a backup series circuit in each of said plurality of LED packages by connecting a backup series resistor in series with a backup light emitting diode using hardwired electrical connections;
- connecting said backup series circuit in parallel with said primary light emitting diode in each of said plurality of LED packages using hardwired electrical connections;
- connecting a parallel resistor in parallel with said primary light emitting diode, and parallel with said backup series circuit in each of said plurality of LED packages using hardwired electrical connections to create a plurality of parallel circuits that comprises said primary light emitting diodes, said backup series circuit, and said parallel resistor;
- connecting at least one circuit series resistor in series with each of said plurality of parallel circuits using hardwired electrical connections to form a plurality of LED packages;
- connecting said plurality of said LED packages in parallel using hardwired electrical connections to create said reliable and hardwired array of LED packages;
