Abstract
A system and method for generating and implementing a barcode, wherein the system includes a data generation device configured to receive data and generate barcode data in response to the received data. The system additionally includes a barcode generation device configured to receive the barcode data and generate a barcode in response to the received barcode data. The system additionally includes a display device configured to display the barcode. The system additionally includes a barcode receiving device configured to read the barcode and operate in response to the read barcode.

A method for processing and displaying a person's health diagnostic test results on a mobile device, the method comprising steps of:
- optically reading a machine readable code, wherein the machine readable code includes encoded information associated with a health diagnostic test performed on a pathology diagnostic device, wherein the optical reading of the machine readable code is accomplished using at least one camera sensor located within the mobile device;
- processing the machine readable code via at least one processor included within the mobile device, wherein the processing includes:
- (a) decoding the optically read machine readable code,
- (b) analyzing the decoded machine readable code to detect compressed health information, and
- (c) decompress the compressed health information contained within the machine readable code, wherein the decompression operation generates processed health diagnostic test result information comprising of reconstructing multi-character information associated with the health diagnostic test results compressed to fit within the data capacity limitations of the machine-readable code,
- storing the processed health diagnostic test result information within at least one memory device integrated within the mobile device and in signal communication with one or more of the at least one processor, wherein the processed health diagnostic test result information is encrypted by the at least one processor;
- and
- displaying the processed health diagnostic test information upon a display device integrated within the mobile device and in signal communication with one or more of the at least one processor;
- and,
- wherein displaying the processed health diagnostic test result information is performed by an electronic health record software application residing on the mobile device and associated with the person using the mobile device.
A mobile device configured to generate a first interactive user interface responsive to processing a machine-readable code, the mobile device comprising:
- at least one processor, wherein the at least one processor processes compressed health information encoded within the machine-readable code;
- at least one memory device in signal communication with the at least one processor, the at least one memory device storing software instructions;
- at least one camera sensor;
- and
- a touch screen display device;
- wherein the software instructions are executed by the at least one processor, causing the mobile device to complete the following:
- capture an image of the machine-readable code using the at least one camera sensor;
- analyze encoded information captured from the image of the machine-readable code by the at least one processor,
- determining content associated with the encoded information, the encoded information comprising at least one of:
- (a) a Uniform Resource Locator (URL), and
- (b) compressed health information;
- processing the encoded information to determine a target software application based upon the content within the encoded information via the at least one processor, wherein the target software application resides within the at least one memory device,
- wherein, in a condition where the encoded information comprises the compressed health information, the at least one processor generates the first interactive user interface responsive to the compressed health information, the first interactive user interface is displayed on the touch screen display device, wherein the first interactive user interface allows the user to interact with the compressed health information within a personal health record application residing on the mobile device, as the determined target software application, residing on the mobile device;
- and
- in response to user interaction with the first interactive user interface, the at least one processor performs a function determined by the content of the encoded information, the function comprising at least one of:
- (a) launching a web browser to navigate to the URL contained in the encoded information, and
- (b) launching the personal health record application to store and manage the compressed health information, wherein the at least one processor decompresses the compressed health information prior to storing the compressed health information in the at least one memory device.
