Abstract
Techniques for identifying a geographic location of a wind turbine using an image. An image depicting a geographic area is received. A location is identified, in the image, relating to a place where a wind turbine tower depicted in the image meets ground depicted in the image. This includes identifying two objects relating to the wind turbine tower in the image, and distinguishing a bottom end of the wind turbine tower from a top end of the wind turbine tower based on the identified two objects. A geographic location corresponding to the determined image location is determined, based on the image and the determined image location. A location of the wind turbine tower, in a database of wind turbine locations, is updated based on the geographic location.
Claims15
A method, comprising:
- receiving an image depicting a wind turbine in a geographic area;
- identifying, in the image, at least one of a tower of the wind turbine or a shadow of the tower;
- identifying, in the image, a component of the wind turbine;
- and
- determining, based on the component of the wind turbine and at least one of the tower or the shadow, a bottom end of the wind turbine and a top end of the wind turbine;
- determining, based on the bottom end, a pixel of the image that shows where the wind turbine meets ground;
- determining, based on a position of the pixel in the image, a geographic location where the wind turbine meets ground;
- and
- updating a location of the wind turbine in a database to be the geographic location.
A system, comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory storing a program, which, when executed on the processor, performs an operation, the operation comprising:
- receiving an image depicting a wind turbine in a geographic area;
- identifying, in the image, at least one of a tower of the wind turbine or a shadow of the tower;
- identifying, in the image, a component of the wind turbine;
- and
- determining, based on the component of the wind turbine and at least one of the tower or the shadow, a bottom end of the wind turbine and a top end of the wind turbine;
- determining, based on the bottom end, a pixel of the image that shows where the wind turbine meets ground;
- determining, based on a position of the pixel in the image, a geographic location where the wind turbine meets the ground;
- and
- updating a location of the wind turbine in a database to be the geographic location.
A computer program product, comprising:
- a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code embodied therewith, the computer-readable program code executable by one or more computer processors to perform an operation, the operation comprising:
- receiving an image depicting a wind turbine in a geographic area;
- identifying, in the image, at least one of a tower of the wind turbine or a shadow of the tower;
- identifying, in the image, a component of the wind turbine;
- and
- determining, based on the component of the wind turbine and at least one of the tower or the shadow, a bottom end of the wind turbine and tower from a top end of the wind turbine;
- determining, based on the bottom end, a pixel of the image that shows where the wind turbine meets ground;
- determining, based on a position of the pixel in the image, a geographic location where the wind turbine meets the ground;
- and
- updating a location of the wind turbine in a database to be the geographic location.
