Abstract
An approach is provided for trading card platform. The approach involves, for example, initiating a reading of a machine readable code from a trading card to determine a card identifier. The approach also involves querying for one or more attribute data records associated with the trading card based on the card identifier. The approach further involves computing a value metric based on the one or more attribute data records and presenting a user interface displaying a digital representation of the trading card, the one or more sponsorship data records, the value metric, or a combination thereof.
Claims19
A system comprising:
- a trading card configured with a machine readable code, wherein the trading card is a physical trading card depicting a subject associated with performance statistics that are updated based on real-world events;
- a code reader configured to read the machine readable code from the trading card to determine a card identifier;
- an apparatus configured to:
- query for one or more attribute data records associated with the trading card based on the card identifier, wherein the one or more attribute data records store dynamic data comprising the performance statistics of the subject, the performance statistics being updated over time based on the real-world events;
- receive an input specifying a time or a particular real-world event for generating a static instance of the dynamic data to memorialize the performance statistics of the subject at the specified time or the specified particular real-world event;
- and
- generate the static instance of the dynamic data at the specified time or upon an occurrence of the specified particular real-world event by fixing the performance statistics as they exist at the specified time or upon the occurrence of the specified particular real-world event;
- and
- an application configured to present a user interface displaying a digital representation of the trading card, the digital representation comprising a visual representation of the generated static instance of the performance statistics,
- wherein the input specifies a performance statistic threshold value, and wherein the apparatus is further configured to determine the time for generating the static instance based on determining an actual time or a predicted time that the performance statistic in the dynamic data satisfies the performance statistic threshold value.

A system comprising:
- a trading card configured with a machine readable code, wherein the trading card is a physical trading card depicting a subject associated with performance statistics that are updated based on real-world events;
- a code reader configured to read the machine readable code from the trading card to determine a card identifier;
- an apparatus configured to query for one or more attribute data records associated with the trading card based on the card identifier and to compute a value metric based on the one or more attribute data, wherein the one or more attribute data records store dynamic data comprising the performance statistics of the subject, the performance statistics being updated over time based on the real-world events;
- include one or more sponsorship data records;
- and
- an application configured to present a user interface displaying a digital representation of the trading card comprising the one or more attribute data records, the value metric, or a combination thereof, wherein the apparatus is further configured to:
- query for one or more attribute data records associated with the trading card based on the card identifier, wherein the one or more attribute data records store dynamic data comprising the performance statistics of the subject, the performance statistics being updated over time based on the real-world events;
- receive an input specifying a time or a particular real-world event for generating a static instance of the dynamic data to memorialize the performance statistics of the subject at the specified time or the specified particular real-world event;
- and
- generate the static instance of the dynamic data at the specified time or upon an occurrence of the specified particular real-world event by fixing the performance statistics as they exist at the specified time or upon the occurrence of the specified particular real-world event;
- wherein the application is further configured to present the digital representation of the trading card, the digital representation comprising a visual representation of the generated static instance of the performance statistics;
- and
- wherein the input specifies a performance statistic threshold value, and wherein the apparatus is further configured to determine the time for generating the static instance based on determining an actual time or a predicted time that the performance statistic in the dynamic data satisfies the performance statistic threshold value.
