Abstract
A protective case for a handheld electronic device is provided. The protective case can include a removable mounting system comprised of an interlocking member and a plurality of mounting bases. The protective case may further include a non-slip member to prevent the device from slipping on a surface and a magnet for attaching the device to a magnetic surface.
Claims39
A mountable case for a handheld electronic device, comprising:
- a body portion configured to retain the handheld electronic device within an interior space of the body portion, the body portion comprising:
- a rear wall;
- a perimeter wall;
- a beveled surface that defines a transition between an exterior surface of the perimeter wall and an exterior surface of the rear wall;
- wherein the rear wall is configured to be aligned with at least a portion of a rear surface of the handheld electronic device, and wherein the perimeter wall extends from an outer perimeter of the rear wall and is positioned proximate to at least portions of side surfaces of the handheld electronic device, and wherein the rear wall comprises an interior surface configured to face towards the rear surface of the handheld electronic device, wherein the exterior surface of the rear wall comprises a first exterior surface portion and a second exterior surface portion offset from one another in a thickness direction of the rear wall;
- an exterior-facing component having at least a portion thereof removably received in a receiving space defined by the rear wall of the body portion, the exterior-facing component having a cavity;
- wherein an exterior surface of the exterior-facing component is offset from at least one of the first exterior surface portion and the second exterior surface portion;
- wherein the receiving space is defined at least in part by a recessed surface of the rear wall, and wherein the recessed surface faces away from the interior space of the body portion;
- at least one magnet retained within the cavity, the at least one magnet having a first face and a second face, wherein, with the exterior-facing component received in the receiving space, the first face of the at least one magnet faces the interior space of the body portion and the second face of the at least one magnet faces the exterior-facing component, wherein the at least one magnet defines an outer periphery that extends in a thickness direction of the at least one magnet between the first face and the second face;
- wherein the cavity of the exterior-facing component is formed at least in part by a curved outer wall, and wherein the outer periphery of the at least one magnet is adjacent to at least a portion of the curved outer wall;
- wherein with the exterior-facing component received in the receiving space, the cavity faces the interior space of the body portion, wherein the exterior-facing component covers the second face of the at least one magnet;
- wherein the at least one magnet is configured to attach the mountable case to a magnetic structure.
A mountable case for a handheld electronic device, comprising:
- a body portion configured to retain the handheld electronic device within an interior space of the body portion, the body portion comprising:
- a rear wall;
- a perimeter wall;
- wherein the rear wall is configured to be aligned with at least a portion of a rear surface of the handheld electronic device, wherein the perimeter wall extends from a perimeter of the rear wall and is positioned proximate to at least portions of side surfaces of the handheld electronic device, and wherein the rear wall comprises an interior surface configured to face towards the rear surface of the handheld electronic device;
- an exterior-facing component having at least a portion thereof removably received in a receiving space defined by the rear wall of the body portion, the exterior-facing component having a cavity;
- wherein the receiving space is defined at least in part by a recessed surface of the rear wall, and wherein the recessed surface faces away from the interior space of the body portion;
- at least one magnet retained within the cavity, the at least one magnet having a first face and a second face, wherein, with the exterior-facing component received in the receiving space, the first face of the at least one magnet faces the interior space of the body portion, wherein the second face of the at least one magnet faces the exterior-facing component, wherein the at least one magnet defines an outer periphery that extends in a thickness direction of the at least one magnet between the first face and the second face;
- wherein the cavity of the exterior-facing component is formed at least in part by a curved outer wall, and wherein the outer periphery of the at least one magnet is adjacent to at least a portion of the curved outer wall;
- wherein with the exterior-facing component received in the receiving space, the cavity faces the interior space of the body portion, wherein the exterior-facing component extends along the second face of the at least one magnet;
- wherein the at least one magnet is configured to attach the mountable case to a magnetic structure.
A mountable case for a handheld electronic device, comprising:
- a body portion configured to retain the handheld electronic device within an interior space of the body portion, the body portion comprising:
- a rear wall;
- a perimeter wall;
- wherein the rear wall is configured to be aligned with at least a portion of a rear surface of the handheld electronic device, wherein the perimeter wall extends from a perimeter of the rear wall and is positioned proximate to at least portions of side surfaces of the handheld electronic device, and wherein the rear wall comprises an interior surface configured to face towards the rear surface of the handheld electronic device;
- an exterior-facing component having at least a portion thereof removably received in a receiving space defined by the rear wall of the body portion, the exterior-facing component having a recess;
- at least one magnet retained within the recess, the at least one magnet having a first face and a second face, wherein, with the exterior-facing component received in the receiving space, the first face of the at least one magnet faces the interior space of the body portion and the second face of the at least one magnet faces the exterior-facing component, wherein the at least one magnet defines an outer periphery that extends in a thickness direction of the at least one magnet between the first face and the second face;
- wherein with the exterior-facing component received in the receiving space, the recess faces the interior space of the body portion, wherein the exterior-facing component extends along the second face of the at least one magnet.
A mountable case for a handheld electronic device, comprising:
- a body portion configured to retain the handheld electronic device within an interior space of the body portion, the body portion comprising:
- a rear wall defining an interior surface, an exterior surface, an interior plane at an interior-most surface portion of the interior surface of the rear wall, and an exterior plane at an exterior-most surface portion of the exterior surface of the rear wall;
- a perimeter wall;
- wherein the rear wall is configured to be aligned with at least a portion of a rear surface of the handheld electronic device, wherein the perimeter wall extends from a perimeter of the rear wall and is positioned proximate to at least portions of side surfaces of the handheld electronic device, and wherein the rear wall comprises an interior surface configured to face towards the rear surface of the handheld electronic device;
