Abstract
In some aspects, a resonator device includes a dielectric substrate, a ground plane on a first side of the substrate, and conductors on a second, opposite side of the substrate. The conductors include first and second resonators and two baluns. Each balun includes a feed, a first branch and a second branch. The feed is connected to the first and second branches, and the first and second branches are capacitively coupled to the respective first and second resonators. The first branch includes a delay line configured to produce a phase shift relative to the second branch. The resonator device includes a sample region configured to support a magnetic resonance sample between the first and second resonators.
Claims15
An electron spin resonance (ESR) resonator device comprising:
- a first microstrip line resonator;
- a second microstrip line resonator;
- a sample region configured to support an electron spin resonance sample between the first and second microstrip line resonators;
- a balun configured to deliver microwave signals to the first and second microstrip line resonators, wherein the balun comprises a delay line that produces a phase shift in the microwave signals delivered to the first microstrip line resonator relative to the microwave signals delivered to the second microstrip line resonator;
- and
- wherein the first microstrip line resonator and the second microstrip line resonator are configured to produce a microwave magnetic field in the sample region in response to receiving the microwave signals from the balun, the microwave magnetic field configured to manipulate spins in the electron spin resonance sample.
An electron spin resonance (ESR) method comprising:
- supporting an electron spin resonance sample in a sample region between a first microstrip line resonator and a second microstrip line resonator, the electron spin resonance sample comprising electron spins;
- delivering, via a balun, microwave signals to the first and second microstrip line resonators;
- by operation of a delay line in the balun, producing a phase shift in the microwave signals delivered to the first microstrip line resonator relative to the microwave signals delivered to the second microstrip line resonator;
- and
- producing a microwave magnetic field in the sample region by operation of the first microstrip line resonator and the second microstrip line resonator in response to receiving the microwave signals from the balun, wherein the microwave magnetic field manipulates the electron spins in the electron spin resonance sample.
