System and method for remote inspection of a space

A system for enabling remote inspection of a space, the system comprising:

• a server to store a space map of the space to be inspected;
• the space map having a first data size, the server to define one or more inspection caption points, each inspection capture point including a frustum defined by a location, an orientation and depth;
• a data capture device in communication with the server, the data capture device to:
• receive the space map at the first data size;
• receive the one or more inspection caption points;
• capture additional data representing the space within the frustum for each of the inspection capture points, the additional data being constrained to the frustum of each inspection capture point and omitted for regions of the space outside all of the frustums, the additional data having a second data size, and
• send the captured data and the additional data to the server;
• and
• an inspection station in communication with the server, the inspection station to:
• obtain the space map and the captured additional data associated with the inspection capture points from the server;
• locate the inspection capture points within the space map;
• and
• present the space map and the captured data for inspection of the space;
• wherein the first data size plus the second data size is less than a third data size, the third data size including a complete space map including data for the regions omitted from the additional data.
