Rolling shutter modular utility slat

A utility slat for a rolling shutter, comprising:

• a single-walled slat body having a slat inner surface with a concave curvature, a slat outer surface with a convex curvature, and first and second edges;
• an engaging track positioned at the first edge;
• a receiving track positioned at the second edge, and configured to receive the engaging track of another slat;
• a U-shaped channel formed in the slat body and projecting from the concave slat inner surface, comprising a channel base and first and second channel walls that define an interior space, the first and second channel walls each projecting from the slat inner surface and having an end opposite the channel base that is positioned at the slat body;
• and
• an opening into the interior space in the slat outer surface, the opening defined between the ends of the first and second channel walls;
• and
• a cover removably coupled to the slat body to enclose the interior space, the cover having a cover outer surface, and a cover opening in the cover outer surface into the interior space;
• a spacer positioned on the cover, that projects above the cover outer surface;
• and
• a locking device positioned in the interior space for securing the rolling shutter, the locking device having an exposed portion extending from the cover opening and projecting above the cover outer surface at a first height;
• wherein the spacer projects above the cover outer surface at a second height that is greater than the first height.
