Abstract
Disclosed are methods and systems for capturing carbon dioxide from a gas stream. The methods and systems can also be used to reduce pollutants from a gas stream. The nozzle alignment of the system avoids droplet collision and merger with a corresponding loss of surface area. The high surface area of the droplets allows for increased efficiency of CO2 capture.
Claims30
A system for capturing carbon dioxide from a flue gas stream, the system comprising:
- a gas conduit oriented along a first direction;
- a plurality of nozzles disposed along a plurality of headers, wherein:
- each of the nozzles is adapted to dispense a fluid consisting essentially of amine-free water;
- each of the nozzles is configured to provide droplets of the fluid, wherein 90% of the droplets have a size of less than approximately 50 microns;
- wherein the system is configured to spray the droplets from the nozzles at a droplet speed of less than Mach 0.6;
- wherein the system is configured to accept the flue gas stream at a temperature from about 50° F. to about 350° F.;
- and at least one of a waste water settling tank, an aggravator tank or a recycled water holding tank including a gas collection vent configured to collect the carbon dioxide, wherein the water settling tank, the aggravator tank or the recycled water holding tank are in fluid communication with the gas conduit to capture a waste stream.
