A method of stabilizing the healthy microbiota in the GI tract in a human,
- the method comprising administering to the human a composition comprising a fungal lysozyme,
- wherein the fungal lysozyme stabilizes the healthy microbiota in the GI tract and suppresses growth and/or intestinal colonization of bacterial pathogens;
- and
- wherein the fungal lysozyme reduces ectopic lipid deposition associated with obesity.
