Abstract
For cardiac flow detection in echocardiography, by detecting one or more valves, sampling planes or flow regions spaced from the valve and/or based on multiple valves are identified. A confidence of the detection may be used to indicate confidence of calculated quantities and/or to place the sampling planes.
Claims20
A system for detecting cardiac flow, the system comprising:
- an ultrasound scanner configured to scan a heart volume of a patient, the scan providing B-mode and Doppler flow data;
- an image processor configured to detect two or more heart valves over time in the B-mode data, fit a model of the two or more heart valves to the patient using the B-mode data and a machine-learnt classifier, determine, with the machine-learnt classifier, a confidence value indicating an accuracy of the detection of the two or more heart valves in the model, place a first sampling plane for a first heart valve of the two or more heart valves and a second sampling plane for a second heart valve of the two or more heart valves based on the model, and track the first and second sampling planes over time, the image processor further configured to calculate the cardiac flow from the Doppler flow data for the first and second sampling planes over time;
- and
- a display configured to generate a visualization of the model over time as fit to the B-mode data, highlight a cardiac flow area, and indicate a value of the calculated cardiac flow.

A system for detecting cardiac flow, the system comprising:
- a transducer positioned on the chest of a patient such that acoustic energy passes between ribs of the patient to scan a heart or portion of the heart generating B-mode and Doppler flow data;
- and
- an image processor configured to detect two or more heart valves over time in the B-mode data, fit a model of the two or more heart valves to the patient using the B-mode data and a machine-learnt classifier, determine, with the machine-learnt classifier, a confidence value indicating an accuracy of the detection of the two or more heart valves in the model, place a first sampling plane for a first heart valve of the two or more heart valves and a second sampling plane for a second heart valve of the two or more heart valves based on the model, and track the first and second sampling planes over time, the image processor further configured to calculate the cardiac flow from the Doppler flow data for the first and second sampling planes over time.
A system for detecting cardiac flow, the system comprising:
- an ultrasound scanner configured to scan a heart volume of a patient over at least a heart cycle to acquire one or more volumetric ultrasound scans including B-mode and Doppler flow data;
- an image processor configured to detect two or more heart valves over time from the B-mode data of the one or more volumetric ultrasound scans, wherein detecting comprises detecting with a machine-learnt classifier, the image processor configured to fit a patient specific valve model to the detected two or more heart valves, determine a confidence value indicating an accuracy of the detecting of the mitral annulus and the left ventricle outflow tract in the fit patient specific valve model two or more heart valves, wherein determining the confidence comprises determining the confidence with the machine-learnt classifier, place a first sampling plane for the mitral annulus and a second sampling plane for the left ventricle outflow tract one or more sampling planes based on the fit patient specific valve model two or more heart valves, track the one or more first and second sampling planes over time based on optical flow, boundary detection, and motion prior;
- calculate a cardiac flow value from flow data of the volumetric ultrasound scans for the one or more first and second sampling planes over time, the calculating of the cardiac flow value limited to avoid flow during a portion of a heart cycle, and output an image of the cardiac flow value, wherein the image indicates the confidence value for the one or more first and second sampling planes.
