Abstract
A method for interfacing an information technology device with a gateway includes (1) receiving, at the gateway, first downlink data, and (2) steering the first downlink data from the gateway to a first information technology (IT) device via at least one of a first plurality of parallel data communication links between the first IT device and the gateway, according to a first steering policy.
Claims20
A method for interfacing one or more information technology (IT) devices with an application server, the method comprising:
- determining at least one of a network performance metric and an application performance metric;
- determining a first steering, switching, or splitting policy at least partially based on one or more of the network performance metric and the application performance metric, the first steering, switching, or splitting policy specifying a first allocation of data among a plurality of parallel communication links;
- sending, from a control system, information to the application server notifying the application server that the control system can provide local caching of data on behalf of the application server;
- establishing, at the control system, a distributed access server in response to a request from the application server;
- receiving, at the control system, first downlink data from the application server;
- locally caching the first data in the distributed access server;
- and
- directing the first downlink data from the control system to a first IT device via at least one of the plurality of parallel communication links according to the first steering, switching, or splitting policy.
A method for interfacing one or more information technology (IT) devices with an application server, the method comprising:
- determining at least one of a network performance metric and an application performance metric;
- determining a first steering, switching, or splitting policy at least partially based on one or more of the network performance metric and the application performance metric, the first steering, switching, or splitting policy specifying a first allocation of data among a plurality of parallel communication links;
- sending the first steering policy to a first IT device;
- sending, from a control system, information to the application server notifying the application server that the control system can provide local caching of data on behalf of the application server;
- establishing, at the control system, a distributed access server in response to a request from the application server;
- receiving, at a control system, first uplink data from the first IT device via the plurality of parallel communication links, the first uplink data being allocated among the plurality of parallel communication links according to the first allocation of data specified by the first steering, switching, or splitting, policy;
- and
- sending the first uplink data from the control system to the application server.
A method for control of a communication network including a gateway configured to interface one or more information technology (IT) devices with one or more communication links upstream of the gateway, the method comprising;
- sending, from the gateway, information to an application server notifying the application server that the gateway can provide local caching of data on behalf of the application server;
- establishing, at the gateway, a distributed access server in response to a request from the application server;
- wirelessly receiving, at the gateway, first downlink data;
- locally caching the first downlink data in the distributed access server;
- and
- steering the first downlink data from the gateway to a first IT device via at least one of a first plurality of parallel data communication links between the first IT device and the gateway, according to a first steering, switching, or splitting policy.
