Image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus comprising:

• an apparatus body provided with an opening portion;
• an opening/closing member configured to move between a closed position where the opening portion is closed and an open position where the opening portion is open;
• a fixing unit configured to move between a first position at which the fixing unit fixes an image on a recording material and a second position retracted from the first position;
• a unit used in an image forming operation of forming the image on the recording material, the unit being configured to be attached to and detached from the apparatus body through the opening portion in a state where the opening/closing member is at the open position and the fixing unit is at the second position;
• and
• a control unit configured to execute a predetermined initializing operation of bringing the unit attached to the apparatus body to be usable for the image forming operation, the control unit being configured to:
• execute the predetermined initializing operation based on a movement of the opening/closing member from the open position to the closed position, in a case where the control unit detects a movement of the fixing unit from the first position to the second position during a period from a movement of the opening/closing member from the closed position to the open position to the movement of the opening/closing member from the open position to the closed position;
• and
• not execute the predetermined initializing operation even if the opening/closing member is moved to the closed position, in a case where the control unit does not detect the movement of the fixing unit from the first position to the second position during the period.
