Abstract
The present invention relates to the electrochemical detection of an analyte by capacitance spectroscopy using a redox active polymer-coated electrode such as a polyaniline-coated electrode.
Claims14
An electrochemical method of sensing a target species, which method comprises:
- (A) contacting a carrier medium that may comprise said target species with an electrode that comprises:
- (i) an electrically conductive substrate;
- (ii) a film comprising a redox-active, electrically conductive polymer disposed on the substrate, wherein the redox-active, electrically conductive polymer is polyaniline (PANI) and wherein the film is doped with phytic acid;
- and
- iii) at least one receptor associated with the film, wherein the receptor is capable of binding to the target species;
- and
- (B) determining, via electrochemical capacitance spectroscopy, whether the target species is present in the carrier medium.
