Abstract
An assembly (7) for triggering an explosive in a hole (9) to produce an explosive blast in the hole includes (a) an explosion trigger (15, 19) for triggering the explosive in the hole, (b) a detonation unit body (21) that is configured to be located at or proximate an open end of the hole in an initial position of the assembly in the hole and (c) a trigger cord (31) that is connected to the detonation unit body and to the explosion trigger.
Claims28
A trigger assembly for triggering an explosive emulsion in a blast hole, the trigger assembly comprising:
- a detonation unit body including a retaining portion, the detonation unit body defining a compartment for storing a trigger cord, the compartment having at least one opening;
- and
- an explosion trigger,
- wherein the trigger is detachably secured to the detonation unit body allowing the trigger to be loaded into the blast hole at an initial position and moved relative to the detonation unit body to a detonation position wherein the trigger is spaced apart from the detonation unit body.
A trigger assembly for triggering an explosive emulsion in a blast hole, the trigger assembly comprising:
- a detonation unit body defining a compartment for storing a trigger cord, the compartment having at least one opening, the detonation unit body including a retaining portion and a sleeve aligned with and in communication with the at least one opening;
- and
- an explosion trigger including a detonator, the trigger detachably secured to the detonation unit body and having an initial position and a detonation position,
- wherein in the initial position the trigger is secured to the detonation unit body and in the detonation position the trigger is separated from the detonation unit body.
A method for loading an explosive and an explosion trigger into a blast hole, the method including:
- (a) aligning a trigger assembly with the blast hole in an initial position of the trigger assembly, the trigger assembly comprising the explosion trigger;
- (b) moving a pushing device into the blast hole to disengage the explosion trigger from a detonation unit body of the trigger assembly and to move the explosion trigger to a detonation position within the blast hole while retaining the detonation unit body in the initial position;
- and
- (c) disengaging the pushing device from the explosion trigger to withdraw the pushing device from the blast hole.
