Abstract
Controlling an exercise machine includes receiving a stream of measurements of extension of a component of an exercise machine. It further includes characterizing the stream of measurements including detecting at least one extremum having at least one extremum parameter. It further includes matching the extremum parameter with a previously determined signature associated with a user. It further includes changing an output of the exercise machine based at least in part on the match.

A system, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- one or more processors coupled to the memory and configured to:
- receive a stream of measurements of extension of a component of an exercise machine, the stream of measurements comprising at least one of a cable length or position measured via one or more encoders of the exercise machine;
- detect a pattern of extrema from the stream of measurements;
- detect an occurrence of a first repetition at least in part by matching the pattern of extrema against a predetermined signature associated with a user;
- and
- change an output of the exercise machine based at least in part on detecting the occurrence of the first repetition.
