Abstract
A fire-fighting composition and method of manufacture of the same has been disclosed herewith. The composition comprises a natural gum, glycol ether, sodium lauryl sulfate, other anionic surfactant(s), non-ionic surfactant(s), and many other propriety components. The resultant composition passed in-house tests—measuring cylinder test, torch test and hot heptane test. The composition does not contain any fluorinated surfactant or compounds. When diluted at 3% concentration, the solution produces satisfactory quantity of foam under pressure to extinguish fire.
Claims20
A fluorine-free firefighting foam concentrate composition comprising:
- (a) a plurality of glycol ethers, wherein the plurality of glycol ethers includes at least one butyl glycol ether and at least one ethyl glycol ether;
- (b) one or more natural gums, providing stabilization and thickening to the foam concentrate composition;
- (c) one or more anionic surfactants;
- (d) one or more non-ionic surfactants;
- (e) one or more amphoteric surfactants, wherein the one or more amphoteric surfactants include cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine and/or cocamidopropyl betaine;
- (f) water;
- (g) one or more additional polymeric materials, wherein the one or more additional polymeric materials include polyurethane, polyvinyl alcohol, and/or cellulose;
- (h) one or more polyacrylamides, acting as flocculating agents;
- (i) one or more additional chelating agents, anti-microbial agents, corrosion inhibitors, and/or preservatives;
- wherein the formulation is prepared using a two-vessel method such that the one or more natural gums are suspended in the plurality of glycol ethers before hydration.
