Abstract
Video visualization systems with customizable image sensor frame rates to output multiple imaging modalities. A system includes an image sensor and an emitter. The system includes a controller that synchronizes operations of the emitter and the image sensor to output a video stream comprising data from one or more of a plurality of possible imaging modalities including color video imaging data, fluorescence video imaging data, and multispectral video imaging data. The controller selects a frame rate for the image sensor to output a video stream comprising two or more requested imaging modalities requested by a user, and further based on a minimum required frame rate for each of the two or more requested imaging modalities.
Claims20
A system for endoscopic visualization in a light deficient environment, the system comprising:
- an image sensor comprising a pixel array, wherein the image sensor reads out a plurality of data frames;
- an emitter comprising a plurality of sources of electromagnetic radiation for illuminating the light deficient environment;
- and
- a controller that synchronizes operations of the emitter and the image sensor to output a video stream comprising data from one or more of a plurality of possible imaging modalities;
- wherein the plurality of possible imaging modalities comprises:
- color video imaging data;
- fluorescence video imaging data sensed by the image sensor in response to the emitter pulsing an excitation source of electromagnetic radiation;
- and
- multispectral video imaging data sensed by the image sensor in response to the emitter pulsing a spectral source of electromagnetic radiation;
- and
- wherein the controller selects a frame rate for the image sensor to output a video stream comprising two or more requested imaging modalities of the plurality of possible imaging modalities;
- wherein the controller selects the frame rate for the image sensor based on a minimum required frame rate for each of the two or more requested imaging modalities;
- and
- wherein the controller selects the frame rate for the image sensor further based on an accumulation duration for the pixel array indicating a duration of time the pixel array requires to accumulate a sufficient amount of electromagnetic radiation to read out a data frame comprising exposure levels within a threshold range.

- and
- wherein the controller instructs the image sensor to operate at a frame rate of 60 frames per second such that:
- 30 frames per second are dedicated to outputting the color video imaging data;
- and
- 30 frames per second are dedicated to outputting the fluorescence video imaging data.
