Abstract
A highlight transmission service allows users of communication devices to view highlights of sporting events while the sporting events are occurring without having to watch the sporting events. For example, a computer-implemented method may comprise: determining that a highlight of a sporting event is to be conveyed to a communication device; and transmitting data regarding the highlight of the sporting event to the communication device over a network during the sporting event in order to allow a user of the communication device to view the highlight of the sporting event.

A method for allowing users of mobile communication devices to watch sporting events in a plurality of different sports, the method being executed by at least one computing apparatus and comprising:
- processing data regarding the sporting events;
- determining that a given one of the users who is associated with a given one of the mobile communication devices is to be notified of an occurrence in a first one of the sporting events in a first one of the different sports;
- conveying a push notification regarding the occurrence in the first one of the sporting events to the given one of the mobile communication devices during the first one of the sporting events;
- upon the given one of the users acting on the push notification regarding the occurrence in the first one of the sporting events, determining that the given one of the users desires to watch a prolonged portion of the first one of the sporting events that occurs after the occurrence in the first one of the sporting events;
- conveying a media stream showing the prolonged portion of the first one of the sporting events on the given one of the mobile communication devices during the first one of the sporting events;
- determining that the given one of the users is to be notified of an occurrence in a second one of the sporting events in a second one of the different sports;
- and
- conveying a push notification regarding the occurrence in the second one of the sporting events to the given one of the mobile communication devices during the second one of the sporting events.
A method for allowing users of communication devices to watch sporting events in a plurality of different sports, the method being executed by at least one computing apparatus and comprising:
- processing data regarding the sporting events;
- determining that a given one of the users who is associated with a given one of the communication devices is to be notified of an occurrence in a first one of the sporting events in a first one of the different sports;
- conveying a notification regarding the occurrence in the first one of the sporting events to the given one of the communication devices during the first one of the sporting events;
- providing a graphical element displayed on the given one of the communication devices and actionable by the given one of the users to share the occurrence in the first one of the sporting events with a third party;
- upon the given one of the users acting on the graphical element, transmitting a message to communicate the occurrence in the first one of the sporting events on a communication device of the third party;
- determining that the given one of the users desires to watch a prolonged portion of the first one of the sporting events that occurs after the occurrence in the first one of the sporting events;
- conveying a media stream showing the prolonged portion of the first one of the sporting events on the given one of the communication devices during the first one of the sporting events;
- determining that the given one of the users is to be notified of an occurrence in a second one of the sporting events in a second one of the different sports;
- and
- conveying a notification regarding the occurrence in the second one of the sporting events to the given one of the communication devices during the second one of the sporting events.
A method for allowing users of communication devices to watch sporting events, the method being executed by at least one computing apparatus and comprising:
- automatically detecting highlights of the sporting events by image processing;
- receiving a request to view at least one highlight of a given one of the sporting events from a given one of the communication devices that is used by a given one of the users;
- showing a video of the at least one highlight of the given one of the sporting events on the given one of the communication devices during the given one of the sporting events;
- determining that the given one of the users desires to watch a prolonged portion of the given one of the sporting events that occurs after the at least one highlight of the given one of the sporting events;
- and
- showing a video of the prolonged portion of the given one of the sporting events on the given one of the communication devices during the given one of the sporting events.
A method for allowing users of communication devices to watch sporting events in a plurality of different sports, the method being executed by at least one computing apparatus and comprising:
- receiving a request to view at least one highlight of a given one of the sporting events from a given one of the communication devices that is used by a given one of the users;
- showing a video of the at least one highlight of the given one of the sporting events on the given one of the communication devices during the given one of the sporting events;
- displaying a graphical element on the given one of the communication devices together with the video of the at least one highlight of the given one of the sporting events that is actionable by the given one of the users to watch a prolonged portion of the given one of the sporting events that occurs after the at least one highlight of the given one of the sporting events;
- and
- upon the given one of the users acting on the graphical element, showing a video of the prolonged portion of the given one of the sporting events on the given one of the communication devices during the given one of the sporting events.
